Hi everyone,

I’ve been using ShapeWorks for a few weeks and I have a few questions regarding the grooming step. Both in ShapeWorks Studio and using Python, the process gets stuck during the remeshing step. I’d like to know if anyone else has experienced this issue, and if I’m the only one, I’d love to understand what might be causing it.

Also, the optimization step doesn’t seem to model my dataset correctly—regardless of whether I use a small or large number of samples or adjust the input parameters. I’ve tried changing the optimization settings multiple times, but with no success. Could this be related to skipping the remeshing step?

Thank you very much for providing this space for questions and support.
Best regards,
Paula

Typically when the re-meshing library (ACVD) gets stuck or appears to hang, it’s due to a topology issue with the input mesh. You might try examining and repairing it with MeshLab. Another thing to try would be to vary the number of vertices. Lower numbers of vertices are typically faster.

For the optimization, can you explain or show more about what the problem you are encountering is?

Hi, thank you very much for your response.

We’ve conducted several tests, varying different parameters (number of particles, iterations, relative weighting, etc.), but unfortunately the results remain unsatisfactory. Specifically, both the mean shape and the reconstruction of the original samples do not reflect the actual anatomy well.

I’m attaching an image showing one of the original meshes, the computed mean, the reconstruction, and the parameters we used during optimization. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your support!

Best regards,
Paula

These seem to be in an unusually bad correspondence. Is there a chance you could share this ShapeWorks project with me? amorris@sci.utah.edu
